Content For Squidoo Is Prime Importance

The first module that you will create for Squidoo is the introduction. Since this is the first thing visitor will see, the importance can’t be overstated. You should try to do two things in the first sentence – state the purpose of the lens and give the primary keyword phrase. This sentence is often what is shown on the page of search results.

Good content is necessary in all of your modules. There are only two reasons people would read your lens – to get information or to be entertained. Be sure to use related search terms to lead the search engine is their quest to figure out what your page is about.

Your subject should be something you know about so that you can share that knowledge. Write with enthusiasm so that will become contagious to your reader. Be brief and to the point. If the module is too long, divide it into two different modules.

Break up your content. A long block of test is boring and will lose the interest of your reader. Vary the look with ads, images, icons, etc.

And, yes, grammar and spelling do matter. Check it before publishing.

Squidoo and the Black Box

Squidoo has a relatively new module called the Black Box. Essentially it is just what it says.

It is a black box with white lettering. The type is larger and allows you to add emphasis to a title or a quotation. Visit my lens at Squidoo to see how I used it.

While at the lens read the module that gives two books by Seth Godin and Megan Casey, co-founders of Squidoo.com. Both of these are definitely worth the download. Beware though, you are going to have fireworks going off in your brain with ideas for lenses.

I am finding the building of a lens to be easier than I anticipated. Read a bit and you will find the instructions for the different types of modules to be very clear.

Experiment. It doesn’t hurt to try. If you decide you don’t like it, you can always go back and edit it.

Let me know if you have a lens so I can go check it out. That is part of the social in “social networking”.

“Squidoo Basics” Begins

The book that I have chosen to follow for my “How To Use Squidoo” journey is listed to the right. You might want to follow along if you are a beginner at Squidoo also.

I mentioned that I had created 2 modules yesterday — a text module and a guestbook. The text module is just what it says. It gives you the space to include content. You will notice that I have also included a large image in this module. I decided to use this clip art to symbolize what I need to be — a busy bee at the computer. It could have also been a photo.

The guestbook is somewhat like the comments section on this blog. It gives visitors to the lens an opportunity to express their opinions. It is my hope that the experts out there, and there are many, will give suggestions for this ambitious climb up the knowledge mountain.

If you too are taking this journey with me, be sure to post here.
